Small RNAs (former CRPP/KFSP)

Krützfeldt Group

Identification and targeting of small RNA pathways relevant for adult skeletal muscle function

The Krützfeldt group has developed novel mouse models to study the role of muscle regeneration at the molecular level (muscle-specific miR-29a and miR-501 knockout mice). These animal models will be further characterized within a recently awarded SNF grant. The group has also established a novel mouse model for muscle fatty infiltration, and they will further use this model to study the metabolic consequences of intramuscular fat on muscle fibers in vivo.

Lastly, biobanking of serum from patients with endocrinopathies and muscle disease has been started; the aim is to study the role and diagnostic potential of muscle-specific RNA and secreted proteins in these patients (Myocrine study).
